Amy griffin - the artist
Originally from Eufaula, AL, Amy graduated from the University of Montevallo, AL in 1999, with a BS in Art/Psychology (Art Therapy emphasis). Upon graduating from the University of Montevallo, Amy pursued an Arts Education teaching position in upstate New York and taught clay and painting to youth with special needs. Amy accepted a work-study scholarship in hot glass at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA. While
studying at Pilchuck, Amy apprenticed under studio art glass greats for three years: including William Morris. Amy helped foster a community of local, emerging and accomplished artists who aided her in opening the Vixen Studio and Fine Art Gallery from 2001-2003. The Vixen Studio specialized in working with youth and adults via clay, painting, stained glass, and mixed media art.
At the request of her family in 2002, Amy moved back to AL to help care for her grandmother who had recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. While living in AL, Amy helped co-create Bear Creek Glass in Birmingham, the first glassblowing facility in the state of its kind. Amy served as Gallery Consultant and Gallery Artist from 2002 to 2003 at bear creek glass.
Amy has extensive experience working with at risk/inner city youth, youth with special needs and the elderly from teaching at not-for-profit organizations such as Space One Eleven in Birmingham, AL, which she served as Arts Education Program Coordinator/Director from 2004 – 2006. Alongside Amy’s passion for working with youth with special needs, she also loves to work with hot glass and has assisted Cal Breed for three years at Orbix Hot Glass in Fort Payne, AL.
Amy established Vixen Glass as a company that features free lance gallery consulting and hot glass commissions and awards.
In addition to instructing stained glass and hot glass, Amy also instructs the art of clay, sculpture, and painting. Her paintings, glass, and mixed media artwork is exhibited throughout the US.
